Prince Harry shares a glimpse into his very bare Californian chic study

Prince Harry has shared a glimpse into the $14M Montecito home he shares with wife Meghan Markle in a new video promoting his new eco-travel project in New Zealand.

The royal, 37, sits in front of a very beige back drop in the new clip where he speaks Māori and praises New Zealand as a country of ‘sustainability pioneers’.

The video offers a new look at his home in California, where he is raising children Archie, three, and Lilibet, 11 months.

Despite pleading for privacy, Harry and Meghan, 40, have previously shown their home on many occasions including the Duchess showing an insight to her study during a video message shared for her 40th birthday.

The couple also filmed inside their chicken coop during their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.

But the new clip shows Harry’s study filled with California style soft furnishings, including statement candle holders, a stack of green books which appear to have a regal insignia, and a trendy white wash wall.

There’s also a single desk in gray and black behind Harry, who is sitting on a cream arm chair.

The corner of the shot also appears to show a large houseplant, perhaps a nod to the Duke’s green credentials ahead of his eco-initiative.

Speaking to FEMAIL, interior design expert Benji Lewis said the look showed ‘laid back West Coast casual accessibility’ and that it wasn’t ‘standing on ceremony’.

‘The tones in the backdrop are similarly calm to those used for the famous Oprah interview, filmed of course in the Californian sunshine, suggesting that the message being conveyed is one to be viewed in a sympathetic light,’ he said.

‘There’s a clear comfort with natural nude tan shades and containing your color palette to these, going from soft pink into a richer taupe, that always stays on the warm side of things, allowing for the understated charcoal jacket with white shirt to stand gently out .

‘Picking up on the organic suggestion provided by the colours, and in tune with the echo message, the trio of mismatched timber candlesticks – with used white candles – and the distressed painted panel leaning against the wall, provide textural interest as well as proposing a kind of laid back West Coast casual accessibility, there’s nothing standing on ceremony about it

‘Of course it stands to reason that if the topic you’re talking about is the environment then you’d get the color green in somewhere, so the small neatly stacked pile of books with differing shades of green on their covers demonstrates a sense of curation and that you’re in tune with your message, so they’re a logical inclusion; the shades of green also of course providing a splash of colour.

‘Whilst the artificial light on Prince Harry is warm, the non-inclusion of any type of natural light through a window with views to the great Californian outdoors, keeps things professional – this could have been filmed in a boardroom with some “quick win” props to convey a relaxed feel

The video was published ahead of a bizarre five-minute clip shared on the YouTube page of the duke’s non-profit company Travalyst today, which shows the Queen’s grandson going for a jog through ‘New Zealand woodland’ – but which is actually in California.

He is then ambushed by ‘rating agent’ Rhys Darby, who accuses him of dropping a lolly wrapper four years earlier on a trip to New Zealand.

The video, which also features Kiwi actors David Fane and Rena Owen, launches the first-ever initiative launched in New Zealand for the British prince’s non-profit Travalyst organisation, founded in 2019, in which holidaymakers, rather than holidays, are rated for how sustainable they are. Kiwis now have access to a rating tool on the Travalyst website as part of a pilot initiative encouraging travelers to consider sustainable options during planning for their next trip.

The couple previously shared a look inside their mansion during a 'special message' shared on Meghan's 40th birthday. Chatting via Zoom to actress Melissa McCarthy from her dark gray Apple Macbook computer, the glossy clip was filmed in the same room in which she briefly appeared during her husband dela and Oprah Winfrey's recent Apple TV mental health series.

Harry is known to love New Zealand and seriously considered moving there with Meghan when they quit as frontline royals, before opting for LA instead.

This time viewers were given a more substantial view of the study, which boasted a grand oak desk with a pile of strategically placed copies of Meghan’s children’s book The Bench, along with elegant white file in-trays and decorative glass bottles.

The Duchess was also joined by her beloved beagle Guy, who looked perfectly at home on a luxurious gray striped dog cushion, while a chic £1,240 Hermes throw blanket (perhaps a nod to Harry given it features the letter H) was strewn over one of the two cream cushioned chairs.

Perched on the edge of her expansive desk is a tall glass swing top bottle and two his and hers glasses. Almost taking centre-stage on the desk, between two stylish white in-trays, is an elegant gold vase housing a bunch of large white roses.

Placed beside her stack of copies of The Bench was a large white crystal, traditionally considered to be a ‘master healer’

Their home was also previously listed on rental website Giggster to be used for photo shoots and videos.

The listing was first posted before the royals bought the home in 2020.

The mansion is listed as an ‘Italian Villa’ and photos show a close up of its stunning exterior, with ivy growing up the facade and blue shutters.
